Web Log Analyzer
Web Log Analyzer-A
Vital Network Monitoring Tool
Web log Analyzer, also known as Web Log Analysis
Software is a very important Network Monitoring
Tool. It analyzes the log file from a server,
eg Apache, and derives indications about when,
how and who visited the web server on the
basis of the information contained in the
log file. There are two main methods of analysis
of log file.
Post Parsing Reporting is the most famous
kind of method. Here, the log file is studied
and the reports are generated after it and
this generation generally follows a schedule.
This uses a lot of computer resources as the
analyzing and reporting are done simultaneously
and hence can put the computer under a lot
of strain. Thus, this is done during an off-peak
period, but the reports by then is couple
of hours old at least.
Real Time, also known as On Demand Reporting
or Live Reporting analyses the log files to
a database which is running in background.
A report is generated only when the user or
the administrator requests for it. This kind
of analyzer suits multiple users as the strain
on the server is greatly reduced. SurfStats
and WebTrends have produced tools in this
particular category.
A typical Web Log Analyzer Report consists
of the total number of unique members visiting
the web page, along with the total visit duration
and the time at which the last visit occurred.
It gives data about the Authenticated Users
and their last visits. It can also give data
regarding the rush hours or the peak hours
of each day of the weak. The administrator
also comes to know about the country and domain
of the visitor. You can also get the data
regarding the most viewed pages or the pages
marking entry or exit of the user.
Using a proper Web log analyzing software,
you can also know the file types, Operating
System being used, Browser which is being
used, about Robots, Search Engines leading
to your site along with keywords or key phrases
to find the analyzed web page, HTTP Error
messages. Few Web Log Analyzers also provide
you with data regarding who is visiting the
page now, tracking their conversations and
their page navigations.
